Project J-Safe

Project J-Safe is a comprehensive, evidence-based protective behaviours program, promoting a awareness, prevention and of child sexual abuse to Jewish organisations.

Project J-safe aims to:

  • Educate the community about child safety within a culturally sensitive framework
  • Promote knowledge of preventative behaviours
  • Create a responsive environment
  • Assist organisations in aligning with the child safe standards

There is also the option of an evaluation process of Tzedek’s services by an independent evaluator.

Our programs are tailored to suit the needs of each individual organisation.

Synagogues staff and management

The program will cover topics including:

  • Current legislation
  • Child protection policies
  • The Child Safe Standards
  • Case scenarios
  • The decision making process regarding child protection
  • The principles of managing a Child Protection Issue

90 Minute session for staff, management and board members.

Congregation

The program will cover topics including:

  • Preventing risks
  • Recognising indicators of abuse
  • Perpetrators and Grooming
  • Age appropriate behaviour
  • Managing concerns or incidents of abuse
  • Responding to a direct disclosure of abuse
  • How to talk to children about protective behaviours

120 Minute session for parents, carers, family and all adults who work with children

Sporting organisations

The program will cover topics including:

  • Current legislation
  • Child protection policies
  • The Child safe Standards
  • Case scenarios
  • The decision making process regarding child protection
  • The principles of managing a Child Protection Issue

90 Minute session for staff, management and board members.

The Sessions will include discussions, case scenarios and videos; and will cover topics including:

  • Safety, respectful relationships and abuse of power.
  • Consent: age, law and free agreement.
  • Digital images and the law.
  • Boundaries and behaviour towards others.
  • Safety plans and where to turn for help.
  • What to do if a friend discloses abuse to you.

After school Jewish enrichment programs

Staff

The session will cover topics including:

  • Current legislation
  • Child protection policies
  • The Child Safe Standards
  • Responding to a direct disclosure of abuse
  • Managing indirect disclosures

90 Minute session for all staff of Jewish Enrichment Programs

Students

The sessions will include short discussions, activities, role plays and stories; and will cover topics including:

  • The right to feel safe
  • Warning signs
  • Privacy
  • Safety and secrets
  • Assertiveness and resilience to risks
  • Personal safety plan

120 Minutes divided into sessions as decided by the organisation
