Crisis support

1800 RESPECT

This is an Australia wide service for survivors regarding any issue in relation to sexual assault, domestic or family violence. Counsellors are available online 24/7.

Lifeline

Life Line Crisis support chat offers short-term support for people who are overwhelmed and having difficulty coping or staying safe. Life Line uses ‘chat’ technology to communicate with people in real time. It is confidential, one to one help with a Lifeline Online Supporter.

NSW Rape Crisis Centre

NSW Rape Crisis Centre provides a state-wide 24/7 telephone and online chat crisis counselling service to anyone who has been impacted by sexual violence.
For young people

Headspace

Headspace is the national youth mental health foundation. They help young people (from 12 to 25) who are going through a tough time. Eheadspace provides a confidential, free, anonymous, secure space where youth can chat or email with a qualified youth mental health professional.

Kids Helpline

Kids Helpline is Australia's only free, private and confidential, telephone and online counselling service specifically for young people aged between 5 and 25.

NSW Rape Crisis Centre - Adolescent group

The NSW Rape Crisis Centre runs online support groups for adolescents aged 14 to 16 years. The 12 week program is for adolescents who have experienced sexual violence. Participants must be seeing a sexual assault counsellor who will be the referral point for participation.

ReachOut.com

ReachOut.com is an Australian based website with an attached forum run for young people between the ages of 14-25. The discussion forum is not sexual assault specific but aims to ‘improve the mental health and wellbeing of Australian young people by providing information, resources and peer support’.

Somazone

Somazone a safe space for young people to ask questions, share stories and get help for mental health issues, sexual health, relationships, abuse, body image, and drug use. Somazone provides an anonymous question and answer (Q & A) service, topical fact sheets and a searchable directory of Australian youth services.

The Line

This government website features ‘Talk the line’ which is a weekly, closed, online forum to discuss some of the edgier issues to do with relationships. A trained counsellor sits in on the discussions for support.

Youth Law

Youthlaw is a specialist Victorian community legal centre for young people. They provide free and confidential legal advice to young people up to the age of 25. They currently offer phone and email advice and are adding Skype from home in 2012.

AfterSilence

AfterSilence is a US based discussion forum which provides a number of password protected/ moderator approved forums specifically for survivors of rape and sexual abuse.

AfterSilence Chat Room is open 24/7 to members only and has regular scheduled topic chats. AfterSIlence Chat Room is moderated by chat moderators, administrators and forum moderators. When moderators are not present in the Chat Room, the Chat Room logs are checked to ensure safety.

Melbourne Sexual Health Centre

Has a number of interactive features with information for people about sexual health. Email support is also available.

Pandora’s Aquarium

Pandora’s Aquarium is a US based discussion forum ‘run by survivors for survivors’. It has password protected/moderator approved forums specifically for survivors. Pandora’s also provides forums for the purposes of activism, research and a space for creativity.

Pandora’s Aquarium Chat Room is open 24/7 to members and also has regular scheduled topic chats. Pandora’s Aquarium has two ‘Chatterators’ who are in charge of the operations of the Chat Room, additionally a group of chat moderators regularly participate in the Chat Room discussions.

OurPlace is an Australian based discussion forum for anyone who is dealing with, or thinks they may be dealing with, verbal, emotional, physical, sexual, spiritual or financial abuse’ . The administration and moderation team on OurPlace have password protected/ member only forums which are only available to survivors.

Living Well is an Australian resource which offers a range of services, including online counselling, to assist men who have experienced childhood sexual abuse or sexual assault, their partners, friends and family and service providers.
