SECASA & Hanover South Eastern Crisis Accommodation Service

A service for women and women with children from the Southern Metropolitan Region of Melbourne who have experienced recent physical and emotional abuse and are not safe in their homes.

After hours service - What do we provide?

The service is a free and confidential service which recognises that domestic violence and sexual assault are crimes.

If you have experienced recent physical and emotional abuse, live in the Southern Region and feel unsafe in your home then you can contact the service.

We provide:

  • Information
  • Support
  • Advocacy
  • Referral
  • Medical attention
  • Emergency accommodation

Domestic violence is probably much more than you think.

When relationships become possessive and controlling you sometimes don't recognise what is happening.

DOES HE control your contact with family and friends?

DOES HE always have to know where you are and is suspicious or disbelieving when you tell him?

DOES HE become angry and jealous when you talk to other guys?

DOES HE put you down so much that you end up feeling you can't stand up for yourself?

DOES HE believe that men are superior and puts women down, even if he tells you that you are different?

DOES HE force or pressure you to do things against your will to the point where you are unable to make decisions?

Violence is NOT on

The Australian Bureau of Statistics Personal Safety Survey (2005) found that:

  • 1 in 3 women had experienced physical violence since the age of 15;
  • Nearly 1 in 5 women had experienced sexual violence since the age of 15;
  • 16% of women had experienced violence by a current or previous partner since the age of 15;
  • Intimate partner violence especially affects pregnant women. The survey found that 36% of women who experienced intimate partner violence were pregnant at the time of the violence and 17% of those women were pregnant when the violence started.
