The Department of Justice, Melbourne, Australia.
You do not have to put up with violence in your home or anywhere else. You have every right to protect yourself and your children.
No one is allowed to hurt or threaten you; it is wrong and it is against the law.
Anyone who physically hurts or threatens you commits a criminal offence.
There are various legal remedies and options which may be available to protect you from this and other forms of abuse.
About the Victorian community council against violence.
The Council Against Violence provides a link between the community and Government by consulting with the community and by informing Government about concerns relating to violence. The Council investigates specific issues through terms of reference from the Attorney-General or the Minister for Police and Emergency Services. It also conducts its own independent research on violence related issues, develops strategies to reduce the level of violence and makes recommendations to improve the response of the criminal justice system and services provided to victims of crime. Members are appointed by the Attorney-General and the Minister for Police and Emergency Services.
