This article is written for men and assumes a male offender, however SECASA acknowledges that both men and women can be survivors of sexual abuse and that offenders can be male and female.
For over 25 years I have worked with adult male survivors as they recover from the long term effects of sexual child abuse. Each man's boyhood experience was unique as is his journey of recovery - but there is great similarity of the effects and the paths of recovery. In the face of enormous obstacles, courageous male survivors make enormous individual progress while supporting their brothers in healing childhood wounds. Here are some of my observations about the nature of recovery, why it is real and matters; the results of the struggle justify the effort. The men's individual statements speak for themselves.
