Who can attend?

Any infant, child or adolescent up to the age of 17 years who requires a medical for suspected

  • physical assault
  • sexual assault

A full paediatric assessment can also be requested for suspected neglect or failure to thrive.

What do we need?

  • Parent attendance or written parental consent or Court Order.
  • Medical history preferably from parent/caregiver.
  • Telephone call if delayed or not attending.

When can you attend?

Medical sessions are conducted Monday to Friday 1:30pm - 5pm.

Acute sexual assault cases will also be seen after hours and at weekends.

Physical abuse cases will only be seen by the Unit in the sessions.

All medical emergencies are to be taken directly to the emergency department.

Reports

  • Handwritten report provided if urgent
  • Typed report within ten days with accompanying photographs.

How do you make an appointment?

After hours: (03) 9349 1212 and request for the SECASA worker to be paged.

How to report child abuse

The Department of Human Services, Child Protection has the legal responsibility to investigate notification of child abuse.
