Specialist sex offences unit
In 2007 the OPP established a Specialist Sex Offences Unit to prosecute sexual offences in Melbourne Courts.
It can be stressful giving evidence in court, particularly in relation to sexual offending. The OPP hopes that by having these cases prosecuted by a specialist unit they can be handled more sensitively and the stress experienced by witnesses and victims can be reduced.

Witness & victim services
The OPP has a Witness Assistance Service which is available to all prosecution witnesses and victims of crime who are involved in cases handled by the OPP.
This free service is staffed by social workers who provide support and information to witnesses and victims.
