It's never your fault.

Sometimes the grown up makes you think that what has happened is your fault and you can feel guilty about the abuse. But it is NEVER your fault. Children don't make adults do naughty things, do they? That is part of the trick they play on you, like Scar in the Lion King made Simba feel it was his fault that his Dad died, but it wasn't Simbas' fault, was it?

Sometimes kids feel it was their bodies fault that someone abused them. But it is not! Grown ups are not allowed to touch the private and special parts of your body or to make you touch their private parts. Some children think that their bodies may be hurt and spoiled by sexual assault. If you are scared of this you can tell a grown up who can talk to you about it or take you to a doctor who can check you out and help you stop worrying.

If you need to talk to anyone about these things please call:

  • The Kids Helpline on 1800 551 800
  • CASA on 1800 806 292
