The best way to help the grown ups who look after you is to tell them about how you feel. You can choose someone whom you feel safe with to talk to. There are people whose job it is to talk to children who have been hurt. They are called counsellors. There are also groups of kids who have all been hurt who meet together with counsellors to talk about how they feel. Maybe you want to talk to people in your family?
You can also choose to talk to someone when you are older if what happened keeps coming into your head or you are having bad dreams. When you have been sexually assaulted it is like having a really bad splinter. The splinter has to come out before it can heal. It hurts when it comes out but then you feel much better.
Talking about the difficult things you feel will help you heal and make you feel better and safer.
If any of these things have happened to you, tell a grown up you trust right away! If you are too frightened or are not sure what to do, then you can ring the Kids Helpline on 1800 551 800, or ring us (CASA) on 1800 806 292, the person you speak to will know what to do.
